DSA competes in two leagues: I-270 Sports Club and Montgomery County Recreation Department, Rising Star League
The following is a breakdown of the natural progression of kids through the program:
5th grade plays I270 Bantams
6th grade plays Rising Star
7th grade plays I270 Juniors
8th grade plays Rising Star
9th grade plays I270 Seniors
All 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys must try out for the I270 Bantam team. If we have enough kids that try out, DSA will consider sponsoring another team in the Montgomery County 5th grade Rising Star league.
All kids must try out for their league according to their grade. For example, if an 8th grader tries out for the I270 Senior team and makes the team, he must also tryout for the 8th grade Rising Star team. If he makes the Rising Star team, then his priority is the 8th grade Rising Star team although he can play both leagues.
Another example - a 6th grader tries out and makes the I270 Junior team. He must try out for the 6th grade Rising Star team also. If he makes the 6th grade Rising Star team then his priority is the 6th grade Rising Star team but he can play in both leagues.

DSA Participates in the I-270 Sports Club Basketball League.
There are three teams having the following age groups: Bantams -
8-10 years old, Juniors - 11-12 years old, and Seniors - 13-14 years
old. The coaches, with their assistant and independent evaluators,
hold tryouts for the three age groups. Tryouts begin late September each year. Regular season games begin in mid November and
playoff games are scheduled for March. The I-270 Sports Club has
separate Board of Directors that includes the DSA Basketball
Commissioner. The registration fee goes to the I-270 Sports Club and
not to DSA. However, it is DSA who pays for practice gym rental,
basketballs, and other operating costs. Uniforms are provided and
must be returned following the last game. These expenses are
offset through sponsors, a rebate from the I-270 Sports Club,
Hoopsters League and the Hornets Summer Basketball Camp.
Players and parents must understand that I-270 has no "must play"
rule. Although coaches are encouraged to play all players as much as
possible, there is no minimum playing time. The I-270 league is very
competitive and has a history of developing the future stars for
high school and college programs.
The I-270 league will start on November 14, 2009.

in October each year. Games begin in January lasting through March. Uniforms are
provided and must be returned following the last game. The fee covers league fees, gym rentals and
other associated operating expenses.
Players and parents must understand that Rising Star has no "must play" rule. Although coaches are
encouraged to play all players as much as possible, there is no minimum playing time. The league is
very competitive, but typically has a wide range of talent.
