Note From Dan Walker, DSA Baseball Commissioner- Stepping Down

This past Tuesday, I notified the DSA Board that I plan to step down as Commissioner of Baseball, effective July 31, 2019. After serving 13 continuous years as both Assistant Commissioner (twice), and Commissioner (twice) and coaching 23 seasons (spring, summer, and fall), I have found I no longer have the energy needed to manage a program of this scope and complexity.

I am pleased with where the program is financially and organizationally. The program should end the spring season well positioned for the coming year with uniforms already purchased for the fall. We have also made a substantial investment in training equipment, re-sided the equipment shed, and provided significant upgrades to the High School facility. We have also expanded the use of social media, including FaceBook and Twitter, and our relationship with the DSA softball program and the DHS baseball program are stronger than ever. During the remainder of my term, I plan to complete improvements to the website (we already have a significant amount of information on the site, but a re-organization should make it a more effective tool) as part of an overall transition effort that leaves the program as close to “turn key” as possible. I wish I could list everyone that deserves credit for all these accomplishments, but they are too numerous to mention in this limited space.

I am very proud of my service to the youth of Damascus through DSA. This experience has been one of the more defining and enriching aspects of a life that has had many highlights.

Dan Walker
